Methodology

Every month we download the rate tables banks publish under the transparency rules of the Superintendencia de Bancos, read them automatically and validate every figure. If a single row from a bank fails validation, that bank is not published until it has been checked by hand.

We show the published nominal annual rate for your amount and term, and an estimated interest on a 360-day basis, before taxes and withholding. Each bank sets its final conditions: always check the bank’s official document, linked from each row.

For savings accounts we show the rate of the tier that matches your balance, applied to the whole balance, with the conditions the bank publishes in its notes. For loans we compare each bank’s effective annual rate with the segment’s legal maximum rate. For cards we compare service fees including VAT; the Superintendencia de Bancos sets maximum fees, so many fees are the same across banks.

Deposits at banks are covered by deposit insurance (COSEDE) up to USD 32,000 per depositor at each bank. TasaJusta is not a financial institution, takes no deposits and does not charge banks to appear.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between the nominal rate and the effective rate?

The nominal rate is the annual rate the bank states. The effective rate adds the effect of compounding the interest over the year: with monthly compounding, a nominal rate of 6.00% is an effective rate of 6.17%. For loans we compare the effective rate, which is the one checked against each segment’s legal maximum rate. See these and other terms in the glossary.

Are my deposits insured?

Deposits at banks are covered by the deposit insurance that COSEDE, Ecuador’s deposit insurance agency, runs, up to USD 32,000 per depositor at each bank. If your amount is above that, the comparison warns you. Check the current cover at cosede.gob.ec.

Why is my bank missing?

Some banks do not publish their rate tables, block automated downloads or only have old documents. In Status you will see the reason for each bank and the link to its documents.

How often is the data updated?

Once a month, after banks publish their tables. The date of the latest update is at the foot of every page, and the changes since the previous month are listed in Rate changes.

I was charged more than the bank publishes. What do I do?

Compare the charge in Check a fee. If it is higher than the published fee, the page drafts a complaint (in Spanish) to file first with your bank’s customer service and, if they do not reply, with the Superintendencia de Bancos.

Does TasaJusta recommend any bank?

No. We rank offers only by the rate or fee each bank publishes, we do not charge banks to appear, and we show the risk rating as the Superintendencia de Bancos publishes it. Each bank has its own page with all its rates, linked from its name.

Can I use this data?

Yes. Open data has every dataset in JSON and CSV, with the source of each figure.
